How to Brew Ceremonial Matcha

Prep Pod / Powder

Place one Nespresso-compatible capsule into your machine, or scoop 1/2 tsp of Ceremonial powder into a bowl.

Brew or Pour

Select a 2oz or 4oz shot size on your pod machine, or pour 3oz of hot water (80°C/175°F) over your bowl.

Froth / Whisk

Let the machine froth automatically, or whisk in an 'M' shape using a chasen until a rich micro-foam forms.

Place the Joybarba Yerba Mate pod securely into your Keurig K-Cup machine.

Three Golden Rules for the Perfect Cup

Paying attention to these small details will unlock the full sweetness, depth, and clean focus of your botanical blends.

1. Respect the Temperature

Never use boiling water. For both matcha and yerba mate, water that is too hot will scorch the leaves and release bitter compounds. Aim for 80°C/175°F for the smoothest flavor.

2. Choose Your Milk Wisely

For a creamy latte, we recommend oat milk or almond milk. Their natural sweetness pairs beautifully with the rich, grassy notes of matcha and the bold, fruity tones of yerba mate.

3. Keep It Cool and Sealed

Our capsules and powders are sensitive to light, heat, and air. Keep your pods stored in a cool, dark pantry to lock in the absolute freshness and active nutrients.

Brewing FAQ

What machines are Joybarba capsules compatible with?

Our Matcha capsules are 100% compatible with original Nespresso® machines. Our Yerba Mate K-Cup capsules are compatible with standard Keurig® 1.0 and 2.0 machines. Please verify your machine model before brewing.

Can I brew the capsules twice?

For the optimal flavor profile, active ingredients (L-theanine and antioxidants), and creaminess, we recommend brewing each capsule only once. However, a second extraction will still yield a milder, lighter tea if you prefer a less intense flavor.

What is the ideal water temperature for brewing?

We highly recommend keeping your water temperature around 80°C/175°F. If the water is boiling (100°C/212°F), it can scorch the delicate tencha leaves of the matcha or the organic yerba mate, resulting in a bitter taste rather than the smooth, sweet notes of our premium blends.

Do I need a traditional bamboo whisk (chasen) for Matcha?

If you are using our Nespresso-compatible capsules, the machine's pressure handles the frothing automatically. If you are using our loose ceremonial matcha powder, a traditional bamboo whisk (chasen) is the best tool to dissolve the powder and create the signature smooth micro-foam. A battery-powered milk frother is a great modern alternative!

Are Joybarba capsules recyclable?

Yes, sustainability is key. Our aluminum capsules are 100% recyclable. You can simply rinse out the tea residue and place the aluminum shells in your standard recycling bin, or use our prepaid capsule recycling bags to send them back to us for composting and metal recovery.
